Leptis Magna era acum 2000 de ani cel mai indepartat oras al Imperiului Roman. In ziua de azi apartine Libiei, dar pastreaza inca amprenta romana.Pentru a simti fiorii Leptis Magna antice, trebuie sa vizitati neaparat Amfiteatrul si Circus Maximus, cu o capacitate de 30.000 de locuri. Imaginati-va arena frematand pentru o lupta a gladiatorilor sau pentru o cursa cu care romane.
Se pare ca orasul era atat de prosper incat Iulius Caesar colecta de aici o taxa de trei milioane de litri de ulei de masline in fiecare an.
Maretia orasului a fost distrusa in 365 d.Hr., cand un cutremur a zguduit orasul. Parasit in ruine, Leptis a fost ingropat de nisipuri si a fost scos la lumina abia in 1920, prin sapaturi arheologice.
Eu l-am trecut deja pe lista locurilor pe care sper sa le vad in curand. Sper sa o faceti si voi.
